Much-needed upgrades for local organisation

THE EMERALD Queensland Country Women’s Association (QCWA) branch made major renovations to their building in 2020.
These renovations included the kitchen, which is now fully equipped with a large stove top, wall oven, double sink and the old cupboards have been replaced with drawers.
A range of saucepans, cooking pans, crockery and floor coverings completed the kitchen renovations.
Emerald QCWA President Ngaire Merrifield said “the kitchen renovations were completed with grants from the Gaming Benefit Fund, Central Highlands Regional Council (CHRC) and a donation from the Emerald Co-operative Society”.
The Emerald Co-Operative Society’s donation also covered the cost of replacing the roof on the building.
The official opening of the kitchen/roof renovations was held in November with the CHRC’s Mayor Kerry Hayes opening the kitchen, and Emerald Co-operative Society manager Justin Benjamin unveiling the plaque for the renovations.
On the day, Gail Spargo officially opened the new upstairs toilet.

Following the official opening, guests and members celebrated with a delicious morning tea.
Mrs Merrifield said without these very generous grants and donations we would not have been able to achieve these renovations.
The QCWA hall is available for anyone or any business wishing to hire the hall for training sessions and meetings or cooking classes at a nominal cost.
The Emerald QCWA meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 9.30am.
Social and craft mornings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 9.30am and everyone is welcome.
Mrs Merrifield said young mothers with children were also welcome.
Functions held during the year include a cent sale in May, and a high tea.
The QCWA Emerald Branch can be contacted on 07 4982 2846 or 0427 261 268.
