CLERMONT State High School students are leading the way in energy research by being the first in the region to participate in the Queensland Minerals Energy Academy’s (QMEA) Energy: The Inside Story workshop.
The program was designed to supplement the Year 8 science curriculum, with the help of Bravus Mining and resource engineers.
Clermont State High School principal Emelie Adams said the workshop would benefit the students’ learning.
“Students will be afforded the opportunity to better understand electricity production and apply their classroom learnings in a practical environment,” she said.
Director Skills, Education and Training with the Queensland Resources Council (QRC) Katrina-Lee Jones said the workshop would give students insight into the Australian energy market.
“Students utilise live data from the AEMO (Australian Energy Market Operator), along with information about different energy production methods, to assist them in making decisions about the future energy mix for their state,” she said.
Chief Executive Officer of Bravus Mining and Resources David Boshoff said the company was proud to partner with the school in delivering the workshop.
“It is important to us that school children know of the many opportunities open to them in Queensland’s resources sector, bringing highly-skilled careers to regional communities, while also having a strong understanding of how the energy system works.”
