Young Leaders officiate Anzac ceremonies

BLACKWATER North State School students were not deterred by grey skies in commemorating Anzac Day celebrations.
Ceremonies at the school were attended by Central Highlands Regional Council councillor Charlie Brimblecome and resident Blackwater Police “adopt-a-cop” Senior Constable Shar Deacon, who laid wreaths at the school’s cenotaph, ensconced within the school’s memorial Anzac garden.
Students also laid floral tributes at the site.
Blackwater State High School captain Dylan Tevethan, also a cadet under officer with Blackwater’s 14 Army Cadet Unit (14ACR), acted as guest speaker for the event.
Student leaders spoke to the significance of Anzac Day, while year five students shared Anzac symbols with those in attendance.
Prep students participated in Anzac themed activities throughout the week as part of their learning journey.
Blackwater North State School principal Lisa Wogand said Anzac ceremonies formed an important part of traditions at the school.
“Our memorial garden was created by our P&C several years ago and provides the focus for our service,” she said.
“We always endeavour to include our students in the service as much as possible.
“This year our service was conducted completely by our student leaders, with support from our year five cohort.
“I am very proud of the respect shown this morning by all of our students during the service.”
