Double celebrations at Scout Den

It was double celebrations at the Scout Den in Emerald this week as the organisation celebrated both an annual day and an award ceremony for one of their members with the club’s highest honour.
The club was celebrating Founder’s Day and took advantage of the event to award the Grey Wolf award to Benjamin Ross.
Mayor Kerry Hayes helped present Benjamin with his award.

“Usually, we split into three groups over Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, but because it is a significant day, we like to have the whole group present,” she said.
“If there is a significant event happening, we’ll try and coincide that with an award if we can.”
Ms Stallard said although the award was one of the highest honours to be achieved in Scouts there was merit for its young members beyond simply earning awards.
“There’s kids that when they started wouldn’t play… they wanted mum to hang around,” she said.
“You just watch them develop. After a month or two it’s ‘go away mum’. They get a bit boisterous. They build confidence. Resilience.
“It’s great to be a part of. They all seem to be having fun.’
