A busy week for Landcare

While many in the community started last Sunday like any other, Landcare Group were tirelessly in operation to help the region, as they along with the Longreach Regional Council, celebrated Clean Up Australia Day

Regional Agriculture Landcare facilitator Doug Allpass said that Landcare was out in numbers on the day, with keen collectors spending their morning helping the community.

“(We had) 10 members and one Junior Landcarer helped pick up rubbish starting at the Landsborough Highway, around the sale yards and 10 kilometres out the Muttaburra Road,” Doug Allpass said.

Looking ahead in what is a busy time for the group, Longreach Landcare are holding a bird-watching and water bug survey at Warrigal Waters this Sunday, 10 March at 4:00pm.

To get there, take the Muttaburra Road, out past the Saleyards – three kilometres past the Longway turn-off, turn left at the DCQ Field Day sign and over the grid.

Follow that road for two kilometres heading west and meet Rosemary and Warwick on the eastern side of the dam.

Bring a chair if you wish, and drinks supplied.

To reach Warrigal Waters, participants should take the Muttaburra Road and proceed past the sale yards – after three kilometres past the Longway turn-off, a left turn at the DCQ Field Day sign will lead them over a grid.

Following this road westward for two kilometres, attendees will find themselves on the eastern side of the dam, with Rosemary and Warwick, the event coordinators, awaiting your arrival.

For added comfort, attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs, with Landcare Group providing the refreshments.

This event promises to be an enriching experience for individuals of all ages, fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural beauty and ecological significance of Warrigal Waters.
