Just a bit off the top

A LOCAL woman is raising funds for a good cause, inspiring others the do the same.
Kerry Anderson has been doing Shave for a Cure for many years and has returned after retiring last Christmas.
Mrs Anderson said she was a teacher aide at Blackwater North State School for 21 years.
“The Shave for a Cure fundraiser has been going on at the school for approximately 20 years, and I have been taking part for around 15 years,” she said.
“It’s a wonderful event and the kids are always proud of themselves for raising funds.
“I have a big belief that no matter what you look like, you’re still beautiful because it’s what’s inside that counts.
“I feel great when I do Shave for a Cure – we even have parents at the school that are hair-dressers, and they help with the shave every year.
“I retired at Christmas, but the kids still wanted to do it with me, so I decided to come back for the fundraiser.
“It’s a tradition I’ve always enjoyed, but since my Father passed away from Leukemia, I now know it was what I was meant to do.
“It’s good to have a cause and to help out.”
Mrs Anderson said she met Liane Neale at trivia and got talking about Shave for a Cure.
“She said she could donate through Fifth Avenue Collection Jewellery and if we wanted to have a gathering, we could do it at her home,” she said.
“The Bubbles and Bling fundraiser was born out of that, where we will be offering a free glass of champagne on arrival and free entry into the event.
“There will be Swarovski Crystal jewellery for the raffle valued at $209, as well as movie vouchers from the Emerald Cinema Complex – tickets for both are $5.
“The jewellery is two necklace and earring sets, as well as an additional necklace.
“If anyone books a showing with Fifth Avenue on the day, Liane will donate more to the fundraiser herself.”
Mrs Anderson said she is “really thankful to everyone who has supported the fundraiser so far”.
“We’ve had a really wonderful response and hope to see everyone at Bubbles and Bling,” she said.
“To Mitre 10, the Emerald Golf Club, The Mayfair Tavern and everyone else who has donated – thank you as there has been a wonderful response.”
The Bubbles and Bling event will take place at 11 Barry Street, Emerald this Sunday at 2pm.
There will also be a shave on March 12 at Blackwater North State School at 9am and the raffle will be drawn in the evening at Emerald Golf Club at 7:30pm.
